The process of developing a business involves identifying new opportunities, maintaining and establishing relationships with customers, creating strategic partnerships, and creating strategies to improve profits. It affects every department in a company, from marketing to human resources. This field is especially challenging due to the need for constant surveillance against cyberattacks that could disrupt or even destroy systems and also compromise the information of businesses and organizations.
The past decade has seen a steady rise in the sophistication of cyberattacks as hackers target more and more digital assets. Particularly, the frequency of attacks grew as criminals focused on profit and monetization. In the end, cybersecurity has risen up the list of priorities for many businesses. Implementing effective security measures is essential for corporate success due to the danger of losing customers or lawsuits, as well as fines from the regulatory system.
The cost of adopting cybersecurity technology may be prohibitive to SMEs who operate under strict financial constraints. This study is aimed at identifying the internal and external factors that affect SMEs using cybersecurity technologies. A systematic literature review was conducted, using Google Scholar and databases like EBSCO and ProQuest, to identify relevant papers. Key words such as cybersecurity data breaches, threat modeling risk assessment, TOE framework and organizational performance were used to identify studies.
This study indicates that perceived usefulness and technological characteristics are the most important elements in SMEs’ adoption of cybersecurity technologies. Furthermore, IT modularity, observability and trialability are all positively correlated with the use of cybersecurity technologies in SMEs.
