Room data sheets (or RDS) are used to systematically capture the information and needs for each space of a project. They are typically created by the client during the briefing (also known as architectural programming in the US) phase of the design process but may also be updated during the design process to reflect the changing requirements, or to provide a more complete and clearer picture for those responsible for delivering the project.
The Room Data Sheets SmartTool is an accurate and efficient sheet view and scheduling utility for creating room (or space) sheets of data within a Revit project. The tool can generate 3D plans, 3D elevations and view schedules for rooms or spaces, all of which are parametrically named and numbered on new sheets.
The tool will default to the Room Numbering Template and Sheet Format that is created by the Revit Project. However, you can select an alternative sheet style and name from the Tool Options tab. Click ‘Load configuration …” on the toolbar to replace current settings with previously saved configurations. This reduces the amount of manual re-work required for each different room or space type and size.
The tab ‘Naming’ permits users to choose whether the space or room is included in the sheet’s Name text box that is located on the left of the screen. The ‘View Name’ field is the text that appears in the title bar of every view, and the ‘View Increment’ option specifies the increment between each view once it is placed on the sheet. The ‘Spacing:’ option can be turned on to regulate the space between each view on the sheet, and the ‘Exclude View Titles when estimating the size of views on Sheets’ option will stop titles from being included in determining the number of views that can be accommodated on a page.
